Dill recipes
In addition to preserving vegetables in vinegar, particularly cucumber, fresh umbellifors of dill can be used in dressings and sauces.
Dill should not be boiled, fried or cooked in the oven for too long, but rather added at the last minute.
Origins
Dill originates from Asia, where it was used for medical purposes.
Usage in the Old Days
Dill was used for medical purposes as far back as the 13th century – but some of the oldfashioned cures may seem a bit odd today:
A cold could easily be cured, for instance, if you just mixed dill, millet and salt and tied it to your head!
Another cure would have you hang the flowers of the plant beside the bed of a sick person, who should then be able to benefit from a good nights sleep.
Medical Use
Dill tea is supposed to cure insomnia and children´s tummy ache and if everything else fails, maybe someone would like to try this cure for hiccoughs: Drink a tea made of dried dill or the juices of fresh dill.
